Newest Gods & Goddesses Kitten Rescues and Cat Rescue Volunteers Needed!!

Rescued Gods and Goddesses Kittens — Hemet PetSmart Rescued Kitten Zeus

Here is the story from Shell on our current rescues:

“These little Gods and Goddesses were dumped at the Hemet PetSmart a few days ago. Once I was contacted I arranged pick up time so these underagers wouldn’t head to the shelter while I was doing school pick ups. They were terrified and hissy. They are becoming quite the snugglebugs now.”

Shell and Valarie counted our kittens across all fosters… WE HAVE 57 KITTENS!!!! Our kittens will come up for adoption about the same time.
We wait until a kitten is 10-12 weeks old or about 3 pounds. We do not like to do surgery at an earlier date since it can impact the lifetime of the cat from the anesthesia harming the kitten or the kitten’s urinary tract no developing properly.

“There are five kittens and their mother. We named the mother cat Lily. I think that all the kittens are males with short hair. They are all very playful and healthy. They are about five weeks old. They love to play with each other. They all get along very well.”

Trapped Feral Momma Cat Rescue in Lake Elsinore

Update from Shell on trapping the feral mom:

“Well we were finally able to trap their mama. She will be going in to Ramona clinic tomorrow to be spayed, get vaccinated, and be SNAP tested. I took these pics last night but then was too tired to post the update. I’m happy to see that her injury from the last time she was trapped seems to be healing well and there is no signs

of infection present because that is something I was a little bit worried about.

She has injuries because the people that caught her and her kittens have never trapped before and they did not know that they needed to cover the Trap so she freaked out and ripped her head open and they ended up letting her go because they were afraid that she was going to injure herself further and they weren’t sure if the rescue would take a feral or help a feral so they let her go. They were really sad and apologetic when they found out that we would have taken her and held her and got her spayed. So I explained to them better ways to trap and left traps with them and we were finally able to catch her again and it’s healing a lot better than I expected it to be with her being out in the elements and stuff. So it looks better than I expected it to – it was really bad when it first happened.

But we are definitely going to do everything we can to try to make sure that she has everything she needs to live her best, longest, healthiest life. The neighbor across the street from the house that she had her babies under has been feeding the ferals and will continue to feed her and they are also going to try to trap the two or three unneutered males that have been roaming around the neighborhood that we believe are the Daddy’s of the kittens that I have. We would like to just get the entire Colony vaccinated and altered so they can be fed and happy and fat and keep the rodent population down but not bring the feral kitty cat numbers up.”

For Savannahs R.’s 8th birthday she requested cat food donations for our rescue. Savannah and her mother Crystal Roberts adopted LBK (Little Black Kitty) a few weeks before her birthday.

Gray Tabby Kitten Toby Available for Adoption

We would really like to find a permanent home for kitten Toby! His adoption fee has been reduced to $40.

Toby was trapped as a feral kitten in the neighborhood of his now foster home. He is friendly and super soft. However, his current foster home’s only space for him is in a garage with no windows. We want to see this sweet boy running around in a loving home!

At the adoption event, there will be an interview to discuss whether you understand and are willing to take on the responsibilities involved with owning a cat. The first qualified person interested in an animal will be able to adopt the feline(s). If people have indicated interest in advance, we will go through that list of names first before adopting to anyone who is present at the event.

Tips for the First 30 Days of Cat Adoption

Before You Bring Your Cat Home:

Cats are territorial, and coming into a new home leaves them feeling really uneasy. There’s all that unexplored space, and who knows what may lurk there. Do him a favor and provide a small area to call his own for the first few days or weeks. A bathroom or laundry room works well. Furnish the room with cat amenities, such as food, water and a litter box. You’ll want to spend time with your cat, so make sure there’s a comfortable place for you to sit as well.

Fill a litter box with one or two inches of litter and place it in his room where he can use it undisturbed. After all, everyone deserves a modicum of privacy when pottying, and giving him that will help forestall litter box aversion. Not sure which litter to choose? Rescued Tabby Kitten

Cats love to get away from it all in small places, and you can provide one for your new cat as his own little safe haven. If he came home in a cat carrier, that might be a good choice. You can also make one by cutting a doorway for her in the end of a box. If you prefer, you can buy a covered cat bed at a pet supply store. In either case, make sure the space is big enough for the cat to stand up and turn around in. Cat “feng shui” probably requires that he or she be able to see the door to the room from his hidey hole, so he won’t be startled.

A cat’s claws need to be worn down, and they do this by scratching on things. Since you prefer that it not be your chairs and sofa, provide your cat with a socially acceptable scratching place. Some types are made of corrugated cardboard and lie on the floor; others are posts which have to be tall enough so that the cat can extend himself upward to scratch. You can encourage your cat (once he has arrived) to use the post by sprinkling it with catnip or dangling a toy at the top. He’ll get the idea. You’ll probably want a scratching post in each room where there is soft furniture, perhaps blocking access to it. You can also install sticky tape (available at pet supply stores) to corners of upholstered furniture to dissuade scratching. Rescued Tabby Kittens for Adoption

Look at your house with a curious cat’s eye view for its climbing and exploring potential. When your cat is acclimated to your home, you may be surprised to find him on top of the upper kitchen cabinets, so make sure there’s nothing on display there or on other high shelves that can be damaged or knocked off.

Look for holes or registers that leave ductwork accessible and cover them up. A kitten can easily slither into one of these. You won’t want firemen in the house, jackhammering the concrete floor to extract your cat.

If possible, buy a cat tree for your new family member. Cats like to survey their territory, so a high perch is often a favored resting place.

If there are other human family members, go over the ground rules about your new pet. Remind them not to startle him and to keep the door to his room shut.

First Day:

Now, you are ready for your cat’s homecoming. Preferably, bring her home in a cat carrier. It will feel safer to her. She has seen a lot of excitement, so take her directly to her new room. (Make sure the toilet lid is down, if she’s to acclimate in your bathroom.) Ideally, you would restrict her exposure to the whole family, but naturally, everyone is going to want to see her. Remind them of the ground rules you’ve set up.

Sit on the floor and let her come to you. Don’t force her. Just let her get acquainted on her own time. If she doesn’t approach, leave her alone and try again later. Some cats are particularly frightened, and she may retreat to her hidey hole and not come out when you’re around at all. She may only come out at night when the house is quiet. Give her time.

Your newly adopted cat may not eat much or at all at first. It’s best to give your cat the same food she had at the shelter or in her foster home, at least at first. Keeping some things familiar will make her feel more secure. Be sure to change her water frequently and make sure that she is drinking. If your cat hasn’t eaten for a few days, call your vet to ask for advice.

It may take your cat a week or two to adjust. Be patient.

Within a week of being adopted, take your newly adopted cat for her first wellness visit with a veterinarian. If you have a record of immunizations from the shelter, take it with you. As your cat adjusts, she’ll show signs that she wants to explore outside her safe haven. Make sure other pets or family members won’t startle her while she gradually expands her territory. She may be ready to play, so you can furnish some toys. Many cats like feather wands from the pet supply store, but homemade toys are often favored. Kitten Season!!! They keep coming. Meet our newest three flamepoint Siamese mix kittens 🙂 This post was updated to include Shell’s story plus a rescued momma cat and her kittens.

Here is their rescue story from Volunteer Shell. As you can read, there is a lot we need to do to educate the public about the importance of spay and neuter and what it means to be a responsible pet owner:

“So a day or two ago I was on my Facebook as I am on a daily basis and I came across a post on one of the many Facebook groups that I belong on that are animal related and someone was giving away a litter of five kittens. Three of those kittens were primarily white flame point siamese mixes as pictured below and those of us in rescue know what happens to all white or mostly white kittens on occasion when they are given away for free.

Despite BBMHR being pretty darn full and overwhelmed already even though kitten season is just beginning, I knew I needed to act. We had just approved a new awesome Foster and she had room as we hadn’t given her anything yet so I contacted these people and tried to convince them that rescue was a good option for their kittens. I even offered to have Mom completely vetted and spayed and micro-chipped on the rescue dime and then return to them but they insisted that they found the kittens and that they didn’t have the mom.

They mentioned that they had a different mom cat with four kittens and wanted to know if I would take her and I said “Yes, I will take them all.” They tried to only give me the mom cat with the four kittens and keep the original five kittens to themselves because a lot of people had already replied on the post saying that they wanted the kittens who are only 6 weeks old, not 8 weeks old, and it is illegal here in California to give away kittens that are under 8 weeks old. In the end, I was able to get three of the five because the other two had already been given away. The three white ones pictured below are the three of the five that I was able to get. Unfortunately the little orange one and the little gray one were given away before I was able to pick these babies up or talk sense into this person so we all just need to cross our fingers and hope that they went to good hands.

The mother and four babies are as sweet as can be. But their condition really concerning. The mother is a long hair orange and white and she is extremely matted. Her kittens are only about one and a half to two weeks old at most and one of them is missing half of his tail because something chewed it off (owner thinks rats- what were these kitties anywhere rat infested!?!) so we are calling the vet in the morning to try to schedule an appointment to have him looked at. The tail is already scabbed over and does not appear to be infected but we need to know what we’re looking at and whether or not anything more needs to be done with it, etc. We will definitely update everybody as things continue to progress with these kittens and we continue to treat them with the love and the care and the responsibility.”

Volunteer Shell about their history:

“A young woman in Hemet went out to her carport and discovered a young mom cat with 5 newly born kittens and she took them in so that they could be somewhere safe and warm. She made sure that the mom had access to food and water and was in her house in a warm safe place with her kittens.

Approximately a week later she discovered a heavily pregnant cat also in her carport and took that one in as well. It looked very similar to the first cat so she thought maybe they were related and decided to keep both of them in her apartment. The second cat is the one that Lynn has and sent pics for. Shortly after taking in the pregnant cat she gave birth to 5 kittens. She had trouble birthing two of them and the girl needed to help her deliver. But the mom and the kittens have seemed healthy and happy since.

When the kittens started to grow and scamper around she realized that
1) her apartment was too small to keep herself, her boyfriend, her dog, her cat, plus two mom cats and 10 baby kittens in forever.
2) if she gave away the mom cats and the kittens without getting them spayed and neutered and vaccinated first she was just going to be adding to the overpopulation problem and she didn’t want that.
3) getting all of them spayed and neutered and vaccinated before giving them away was going to be more costly than she could afford and so getting them into a rescue was probably the best route so she began to look for a rescue.

She found the contact information for Karen at let them be little and contacted Karen about the cat and the kittens and Karen notified her that LTBL was full but that she would try to get in touch with somebody else that could possibly help and she contacted me, and here we are.

The kittens that I have are about 6 weeks old, were flea free, but were suffering from a mild URI which is mostly cleared up now. The ones that Lin has are about 4-4.5 weeks old. I am bad about guesstimating older cats ages so I would guess under 3 years old for the moms, possibly under 2 but may be off.”

Advice on Surrendering Cats or Kittens

We are a no-kill rescue. All healthy animals will receive a home! Once a cat comes into our rescue, it is placed in a volunteer’s home as a foster cat until adoption.

Please note that our non-profit is a cat rescue and not an animal shelter. We are staffed by volunteers who donate their time as they have availability. We will do our best to respond quickly but please allow up to a week for us to respond to correspondence that we receive because our lives get busy too!

Advice on Surrendering Your Cat

Our cat rescue can only take in animals provided that we have an open foster home willing to take the animal. If we are unable to take your pet, here are some tips from PetFinder.com about your next steps.

Deciding to Surrender Your Pet and Options

It is a huge decision to give away your pet, no matter how long or brief the period of time of ownership. Remember, for whatever reason you no longer are choosing to keep this pet, YOU are the person in this world who loves your pet more than anyone else and YOU no longer want your pet! First ask yourself if there is anything about your pet behaviorally or personality-wise that could be worked on in order for you to keep him. It is exceedingly difficult to find good, permanent homes for adolescent or adult animals (as you are finding out first-hand). There are a few things you need to do to be responsible and caring until the last possible moment:

Take your pet to the veterinarian for a check-up, vaccinations, and, most importantly spaying/neutering! If you were thinking that your pet might make a good breeding animal, STOP! Why breed from an animal that no-one wants anymore? Why make more unwanted animals in a world where even great pets dont remain very long in their first homes? You want someone to adopt your pet as a COMPANION, not because it might make a good or profitable breeding animal. You are much more apt to find a responsible, permanent home by placing an already sterilized pet. Get it done: its the least you can do, and the best thing you can do.

Spaying and neutering also reduces the risk your pet will run away from its next home, and helps to insure that your pet won’t urine mark his new home and thus become quickly unwanted again!

If your pet is already spayed or neutered, and has not bitten anyone,try to find a new home for your pet through advertising. Place a classified ad in your local newspaper, and screen any callers carefully. Be completely honest about all your pet’s behaviors, good and bad. No pet is perfect, and people are more likely to adopt a pet they know about, for better or worse. When screening callers, tell every caller that someone has already come to look at your pet, but you are still taking names and telephone numbers and references, in case, so you can call them back. This gives you an instant out if you think the caller is not right for your pet, and hurts no ones feelings.

Take a few good, color photos and make some posters. Include your pet’s name (it personalizes him…) and include his best traits, his most endearing qualities, and some guidelines for the best possible home: i.e., no small kids, someone whos home a lot, no other pets, good for experienced dog owner, etc.

Be careful in choosing an animal shelter. Visit the kennels, meet the staff, familiarize yourself with the shelter’s policies. A No Kill policy might look good at first, but not if your dog will end up living out his life in the kennels.
If your pet is aggressive, or has nipped or bitten someone, EVER, then please get a professional behavioral evaluation before giving away your pet. Check with state and local laws, too, about liability in re-homing a pet with prior knowledge of aggression. Do not try to find a new home for an aggressive animal without professional help.
If your pet has a behavior problem, he’ll take it with him to the next home. Many problems are workable, or at least manageable. Contact a trainer or behavior counselor and see if its not possible to work things out so you can keep your pet.

Three Kittens and Mom Cat are Trapped

More kittens! We do need to do a tally at some point. Volunteer Patsy trapped 3 kittens and their mother. She had been trying to trap mom for 2 years. She is guessing the kittens are 5 weeks old, but will confirm when she takes them in for a vet check.

Our fur babies are all too small for adoption, but you can complete an application form to be pre-approved if there if you want to adopt or are interested in a specific kitten that we have featured. If so, please email us at info@babybobbysmeowhouserescue.org.

Our kittens need to be about 10-12 weeks old or 2.5-3 pounds before they are big enough for a spay and neuter surgery. People have told us they know kittens who have had it done at an earlier age. Please know that we believe that this compromises the cat’s long term health with potential problems from not being physically developed enough. There can be complications from receiving anesthesia while being so young or the urinary track does not develop correctly due to the surgery being too soon.

Yes, potential adopters will miss a few weeks when they are super small and adorable, but it will make for a lifetime of a healthier cat. Thank You!
